What is HD?
HD stands for High Definition. It is sometimes
called Hi Def, HD, or High Def. On a basic level, it
is video at a high resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio.
This means that the video is very clear with little
pixilation and all the video is in widescreen
format. Not all widescreen TV's support HD and not
all channels are broadcast in HD right now.
Eventually everything will be in High Definition.
HD video is HUGE. On a standard DVD, about 20
minutes or so of HD quality movies will fit. So they
had to create a higher capacity DVD format so that a
feature length movie can fit on there. Two separate
formats have emerged. Blu Ray and HD-DVD Some
movies are out on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. HD-DVD and
Blu-Ray are competing formats for High Definition
DVD's. Some companies have backed one format and
other companies have backed the other. They are
pretty similar but each have their own magical
differences, but it is really about which one will
win the race. There are a few companies that have
released HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD players.
The easiest way for people to get their HD video
out is the Internet. Many sites feature HD clips and
some porn sites like the ones listed on this
directory have put their videos in HD on the web.
Below are some informative sites that explain
the ins and outs of HDTV, HD video, EDTV, and other
related concepts.
